The Highway Department, comprised of a three-member crew, is responsible for maintaining over forty-eight miles of dirt and paved roads in Grafton, thirty-three miles are gravel and fifteen miles are paved. This entails the plowing of those roads in the winter, grading the dirt roads and dealing with the inevitable mud season in the spring, and repairing the paved roads as well. The Department is also responsible for culvert installations, cleaning of roadside ditches and mowing, maintaining the 18 bridges on Town roads, removal of fallen trees on Town roads, installation of road signs, and assisting other Departments when necessary.
The Road Foreman approves all applications for a Highway Access Permit. Applications are available below
